Sparkly Water

**UPDATE: Books arrived this morning. If you are one of the 15 winners, I will contact you today.**

On a family trip to Lake Chelan, years ago, my little brother sat in the backseat. From his carseat he chanted a little song: "Spawk-a-wee water, Spawk-a-wee water." Our car had just made the turn off the freeway toward Lake Chelan, and the lake was in view. He was noting the hot sunshine reflecting off the blue lake, and how it twinkled. His song was so content, so happy; our family knew at that moment that our Summer vacation had begun.

Tiny moments like that, just one little 2-year-old quote, stick with me. They stick with my family, too. In fact, if I were to go to my parents house right now, and my 19-year-old brother were in the living room, I would simply look at him and sing "Sparkly water, sparkly water" and he would smile and know EXACTLY what I was talking about.

Its with that in mind that I introduce you to a new find: My Quotable Kid. Its a new book just coming out, and I am in love with it because of its simplicity.

Its more like a journal of sorts, but in this day and age, I've found it to be exactly what I need. (Its small enough to tote around in your purse.) Each time Olivia coins a phrase that I want to treasure, I grab whatever pen (or crayon) I can find and jot it down. Its like taking a photograph, only with words. I will treasure this book someday when she is grown and I miss my toddler.

The book is available for purchase at Amazon: click here. AND I called the publisher at Chronicle Books (I LOVE CHRONICLE BOOKS!!!) and they are shipping 15 copies in my direction so I can give them away!

So if you want in, leave a quote about your child, or perhaps from your own childhood, in the comments section. Be sure to include a way I can get a hold of you, like an email address, so I can mail you your copy of the book if you win! I'll do the drawing in about a week (once the books arrive from the publisher) and then choose winners at random.

I'm excited to give these away. In a world of email, facebook, blogs, and twitter, I'm just thankful to put a pen to paper sometimes and make a memory. One Sparkly Water story at a time.

What an awesome book! I love writing down things that Owen says and does. His latest things are when I say, "Please do as mama says", he says, "now". He says it so innocently he's not back talking, but it takes everything in me not to smile and laugh.

The other one is we just recently started let him watch The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (Love that show) and when he sees Mickey or Goofy or any of the characters anywhere he immediately starts singing, "Hot og, hot og, hot og". It's so very cute!

much better than the scraps of paper i try to keep together! and really, i need a good place to write down "you make all of my dreams not come true!" if only i could sketch the fury on her two year old face to go with it...

He-he! My daughter is full of quotes at the tender age of "4 and 1 half and three quarters". Her birtday is in two weeks.

I think it is important to write down fun things you child says, also another fun thing is to get them to tell you a story and write it down. My girls seem to relish in me reading their story back to them. Great Idea.

We live in Federal Way and have some incredible views of Mt. Rainier and one day we were driving by and they said something about Santa living on Mt. Rainier it took me a minute to figure it out. They thought it was Mt. "Reindeer" not Mt. "Rainier".

That is seriously the best idea I have ever seen. Why didn't I think of that?

The other day we were driving in the car and my 2 year old kept singing "My mom's a cutie pie, My mom's a cutie pie". Aren't I lucky?

I love this and I want one!

My son doesn't say please or even mama. But just threw out 'basketball' this week. We are in hysterics.

My boy is only 8 months old as of yesterday, he only says "dadadadadadada" and other inaudible 'words'. I would love to have one of these to put his words in once he does start to talk.

Hi Sarah! I have my own sort of homemade book like this, but the one you showed sounds great! Here's one of my favorites from my daughter Hannah on a very hot summer night:

"Mama I just want to sleep with my skin on."

so about a week ago i was cuddling with my 1 1/2 year old, Moses, when my almost 6 year old, Solomon, says "when i grow up i'm gonna marry a boy" this struck me as odd until he followed up with "i'm gonna marry moses because i love him so much!"

wow, i feel blessed to have 2 boys that love each other so much!! this new book you found would be such a great way to remember these sweet times!!

It has been a couple of years... however, one of my daughters overheard my husband and I talking and she said, " all I know is, he's attractive". (We were talking about one of the pastors at our church and we think she meant he was hilarious or something like that.) We busted out laughing, I think we laughed so hard we cried. Every once in awhile we will just say " all I know is, he is attractive" and everyone will laugh. Well, everyone will laugh but my daughter, she is now embarassed. However, someday she will laugh at it again.

Oh my goodness- this is such a good idea! My brothers are CONSTANTLY saying funny things, I can never remember them all! One of my favorites was when my brother B said, "Has anyone told you it's none of your business?" I replied yes, my parents and siblings. He replied, "E says that to me, but a lot of times he doesn't know what the business is!"

That book sounds like just what I need! One of my 2 1/2 year old's funniest things he says is "whobody." Like he'll say, "Whobody did that?" LOL He has the right idea!

Wow, just about everything out of my 2 year olds mouth is cute, how can I pick! Even though he is talking all the time and has a huge vocabulary I think I still love it the most when he says, "I want to hold Mommy." It makes me melt that he still wants to crawl in my arms for a long hug even though he is a big boy who can now do a lot of stuff on his own.

I don't know why someone didn't think of making a book like this earlier.

Here's a quote from when I was a growing up- I was about 3 or 4, I was looking in our coat closet. My mom asked me what I was doing, and I said that I was finding my manners. I can vaguely remember this time!

My oldest when she was about 3, was frustrated that her younger brother had learned to crawl and was getting into her things. I told her that she was going to always have a friend in Nathan, who she called "Bobby" (which is another story). She took a quick look at her brother and said adamantly, "Bobby is no good friend!"

When my little boy was about a year and a half, he would call coffee "f-tay", and he'd watch the coffee brew in the morning. Around that time, he started to notice water would run down the windows when it rained. One day he pointed at the rain dripping on the windows and said "F-tay!" I thought that was so funny - only in Seattle would coffee fall from the sky!

I love the concept of this book, because I just have a blank notebook I've tried to jot these things down in. To have a better organized system would be great!

OMG! This book is the coolest ever! I would LOVE to win a copy! I have a little 17 month old who is just learning to talk. Her latest thing is to say "No!" to everything. If you ask her any question at all she says "No" very sweetly but very firmly and shakes her head. I asked her if she was excited to go to a birthday party that we were getting ready and she said very promptly "NO!" It was pretty cute! I know that I am going to get tired of that word pretty soon, but for now it is cute.

Sarah,
I'd love to win one of these books!! The most recent quote my 3 yearold son said was when we were reading a bible story about baby Jesus. I was asking him who all the characters were and he pointed to Jesus and said baby Jesus. Then I asked him about Mary. He
Nonchalantly said "that's baby Jesus' mommy". It was the way he said it so innocently and precious. It made me contemplate how yes she was Jesus' mommy just as any of us are mommies and maybe how that so important role is downplayed so much in the culture we live in. Just made her seem more real than sometimes we put her on a pedestal as the virgin Mary (although she is still due much respect). Just some thoughts:)

"Mommy, when I get really big like you can I have an iced mocha?"

"Mommy, you really love me so you have to clean off my table."

I told my son Kaiden to stop putting toys in his mouth, he then proceeded to take out his toy and lick it with his tongue, "It's not in my mouth, see mom?"

-Kaiden age 2 1/2

I would just LOVE to win one of these books!

What a neat idea. My little guy just turned 2 in January and one of my favorite things he does is pretty much everything we see is kinda like dad's ( or granny's, mommy's, grandpa's, etc.) So every truck we see on the road is "kinda like dad's" I'm really going to miss it when this phase passes it's so cute:)

What a great idea for a book! I'd love to win one of these! There have been so many times my husband and I have said "we need to write that down", but never seem to do it. This would be perfect so I can write "importment" (as my 5 1/2 yr old says) things that the kids say! One of my current favorites is that when saying the alphabet, my 2 yr old says "bubble-u" for W. Soooo cute! Thanks for doing this book give-away Sarah!

What a fantastic find, and giveaway! We have a 3 year old with a very active and verbal imagination! We woke up recently to her snuggled in bed between us, quietly but joyfully already in play mode while whipping up some make-believe sandwiches - this is what we heard: "mommy and daddy can be the bread. i am the jelly. ommy, (her bunny rabbit) you can be the lettuce."

I would love to win one of these books! My little guy doesn't really talk yet (he's 1) but I can't wait to start writing down his phrases!

I was on the phone one time in a very intense conversation, when my son (who was 4 years old at the time) kept insisting I get his toy fishing pole off the top of the fridge, downstairs. I kept whispering for him to wait a minute, that I was busy on the phone. Later after I had hung up -- and probably a half an hour later - my son walks up to me and says, "Mommy, see this hand?" I nodded yes. Then he said, "It doesn't have a fishing pole in it..."

Okay, I am only writing this one because it happened today...
I am driving with my 3 1/2 year old in the car & he says, "Wow Mom! You smell that flower?" (short pause) then he adds, "No that not flower that poop."

I never did smell anything, but I took his word for it. :)

When my son was 2 1/2 he was learning to pick up his toys. I asked him to start picking up. He looked at me, put his tiny fists out and with a matter of fact look, said " I can't do it my hands are closed." He is now almost 7 and that is still my favorite one liner.

Have a great afternoon

I have a 3 1/2 yr old who is full of "Avaisms" and I keep track of them in a blog for her. I love the quote book idea for my purse so I don't have to save those little slips of paper with her Avaisms.

One of my favorite Avaisms is about one of her favorite books. She loved to repeat "lion, lion what do you hear..." and tonight after Ava's bath, we were getting her dressed...I pulled up her undies a little too far and gave her a wedgie. I said "Ava come here, I have to fix your wedgie (kids aren't aware of these!)" and she said, "wedgie, wedgie what do you hear...I hear a lion roaring in my ear."

My son all of 3 told me to give him the keys and he will drive to donalds and pick up daddy and rachie so I wouldn't have to do it. Wow now I can not wait to see what he does when he is 16 would he really do the errands for me?

Our daughter Mia just turned 4 last month. She has been praying for our meals since she was able to talk. The prayer goes like this - "Thank you God for this food, bless everyone at the table, Amen." She usually says it so fast that it sounds like one huge word with an Amen at the end.
Well last night she started praying, and she slowed her prayer down so we could actually understand the words. She said "Thank you God for this WONDERFUL food, PLEASE bless everyone at the table, Amen." We were all so surprised and impressed at the new words and the fact that we were all able to understand her, we all started clapping when she was done. She smiled so big. She was so proud of herself. :)

My son, who was probably 6 or 7 at the time (he is now 10) was in the backseat of the car talking non stop - he was asking me when he was going to be a teenager, and how he couldn't wait to be a teenager. I asked him why that was - his reply was he wanted to be able to eat protein bars. Huh?

I didn't get it at first - so he explained - he needed to be a teenager in order to eat "Pro-teen" bars.

When my youngest daughter was born we were saving to buy a house, so we lived with my mother and father-in-law for a while, in the downstairs portion of their home. Every day, my 2-year-old son would go upstairs to spend some time with his grandma. One day my friend was babysitting my son, and he kept wandering around her ranch-style house, like he was looking for something. She asked him what he was looking for, and he asked her where the stairs were. She told him there weren't any stairs. He looked up at her and asked, "Where do you keep your grandma?" This was so sweet and I have remembered it to this day. My son is now 25 years old and would be pretty embarassed to know I sent this in, but now my daughter is pregnant with her first child and I would love to give her this book so she can write down such wonderful memories; this will be my first grandchild! best1007@verizon.net

My husband just came home with a haircut and here is what our 3 1/2 year old daughter said to him...

"Daddy you kinda have a hole in your hair like my friend's dady has." My husband asked her what she meant and she said, "You know like it's kinda see-through."

Hahaha! Basically she was telling him that he is balding! Kinda see-through...Hilarious!

GrannyNanny reports that today Olivia came up with a good one. After our pre-nap snuggle and bottle of warm milk I asked her, "Olivia, would you like GrannyNan to take you to your crib? Or would you like to rest your head on my shoulder?" 2 year old Olivia put her finger to her lips, in pursed thought, and said, "I think about it!" How does a 2 year old even know what it means to "think about it?" She's thinking in abstract concepts now! Wow!
